The Danville and Alamo Neighborhoods I’d Tour First After a Move from SF

We moved from San Francisco to Danville in 2017, and we’re raising our daughters here. I know the question isn’t simply “Danville or Alamo?” It’s what Tuesday morning looks like: the school drop-off, the drive to work, and where you end up after dinner.
Start in Danville: Greenbrook, downtown and Sycamore Valley
If parks and youth sports shape your week, I’d start in Greenbrook. Osage Station Park is on Brookside Drive, with sports fields and play areas; it’s a place I know well as a youth soccer coach. Check the particular street, though—not every home has the same walk to the park.
Closer to downtown, the appeal is a different routine: a trip to Hartz Avenue or a ride on the Iron Horse Regional Trail can become part of the weekend rather than an outing you have to plan. The trail continues through both downtown Danville and Alamo. If having that nearby matters more than a bigger yard, tell me early.

Farther east, I’d tour Sycamore Valley if you want a neighborhood park close by; Sycamore Valley Park has play equipment on Holbrook Drive. I’d also look at the drive back to I-680 before falling for a house. A commute from east Danville feels different from one near downtown.
In Alamo, compare convenience with breathing room
Around Alamo Plaza and Stone Valley Road, you can test whether daily errands and trail access fit your routine. Westside Alamo and the streets around Round Hill offer a different search: I’d pay closer attention to lot shape, hillsides and the drive out to the main roads. Neither is automatically the better choice. Alamo is quieter than downtown Danville, and some buyers love exactly that.

Do the school and commute checks before the offer
San Ramon Valley Unified’s address locator is where I start school conversations, not a neighborhood name on a listing. The district says attendance and availability must be verified for a specific address. For San Francisco office days, I’d test the entire trip—including the drive to Walnut Creek BART or the I-680 approach—at the hour you actually leave.
- Drive your shortlist on a school-day morning.
- Check the assigned schools directly with SRVUSD.
- Walk the block, not just the open house.
There’s no need to hurry blindly: CCAR reported 21 median days on market countywide in August 2026. That is a Contra Costa figure, not a prediction for a particular Danville or Alamo home. My SF-to-East-Bay moving guide covers the broader transition; when you’re ready to compare actual streets, tell me what you need in a home.

Frequently asked questions
- Which Danville area should we see first if youth sports are a big part of our week?
- I’d begin around Greenbrook and Osage Station Park, then compare it with Sycamore Valley. The better fit depends on your actual practice locations, school address and commute.
- Is Alamo closer to Walnut Creek BART than Danville?
- Alamo is generally north of Danville, toward Walnut Creek, but your door-to-station trip depends on the specific address, route and departure time. Test the drive on a workday rather than relying on a town-wide estimate.
- Does a Danville or Alamo mailing address guarantee a particular public school?
- No. Enter the exact property address in San Ramon Valley Unified’s school locator and confirm attendance and availability directly with the district before making plans.
- What should buyers coming from SF compare between downtown Danville and Alamo?
- Compare your need for walkable errands and downtown activity with your preference for a quieter residential setting. Tour both on an ordinary weekday and test the school run and trip toward I-680.
